This is a 7 day trip covering the Mojave Desert from the Colorado River to Death Valley. We start near Needles, CA and end in Lone Pine CA. The plan is to camp each night. (We will have a hotel room one night half way through to clean up.) The Mojave Desert is quite remote with long distances (and drive time) between destinations. Most times Cell phones get no signal. There are opportunities to buy expensive gas. Just don't rely on a gas station to be there when you need gas - bring extra. We will avoid the paved road as much as possible. Expect plenty of washboard roads, dust and scenic beauty. The Mojave Desert abounds in history, mines, ghost towns, and natural wonders. It will not be possible to see it all even thought we will try. At least one night, we will camp next to the warm springs. Bring a swim suit so you can enjoy the pool. However, it is clothing optional so make your own decision!

Joshua Tree Forest
The 4WD drive challenge is mild. A stock 4WD vehicle is adequate. Of course there can always be a surprise around the next curve. The trail varies from 2.5 to 3.0 (on a 5.0 scale). A trail rating of 2.5 means Roads seldom graded. 4WD, good clearance, and low gears often needed, with some extra care and a bit of off road driving experience useful. A trail rating of 3 means Roads in difficult terrain; expect some erosion damage, repaired barely enough for passage. 4WD, good clearance, and low gears are essential. Complete Trail Rating explaination

You need a street legal, insured 4WD with a low range transfer case. You must have at least one tow hook (or tow point) on the front and one on the rear. You need a CB radio and no side steps. You will need to bring camping equipment and food for 7 days and 5 nights. Recommended items include a tow strap (no metal hooks on the ends), a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, and a Hi-lift jack.

Because of the length of the trail and the isolation, we recommend you bring to bring an extra 5 gallons gas.

One night in a hotel for 1 or 2 people per vehicle is included.
